The Alliance Story

It is no secret that wire fraud is the number one threat facing the real estate industry. However, the stories of buyers losing their life savings and title companies going under after a fraud may not be convincing until they hit close to home.

In the Northwest, several states saw a dramatic influx in wire fraud activity, and Robin Aberasturi, SVP Escrow Services and Compliance at Alliance Title took notice. After seeing other companies fall victim to these scams and experiencing some near misses, Robin knew her team needed to find an option to protect its customers. Alliance’s process of simply notifying customers of the issue via a welcome letter was no longer sufficient.

As with any change to current processes, Robin didn’t want this new tool to require extensive implementation or hinder her team’s workflow.

Alliance now utilizes CertifID on purchase files where the buyer will be sending a wire and on outgoing wires where there has been a change to wire instructions.
