When Best Practices Still Aren't Enough

Hartmanlaw knows the importance of wire fraud protection because it has experienced a wire fraud unravel first hand.

In the spring of 2021, a Hartmanlaw client was tricked into wiring their down payment to a fraudulent account. Hartmanlaw always used industry best practices to prevent fraud in its transactions including warnings in all client communications, introductory letters, and email footers to inform clients that wiring instructions would never arrive via email. Nevertheless, the client received an email with fraudulent wiring instructions and proceeded to wire their down payment funds to a fraudulent account.

Despite Hartmanlaw warning the client of the dangers of wire fraud and informing them they would never email wiring instructions, the client still felt Hartmanlaw was at fault for the loss of their funds. With a potential legal battle brewing, Hartmanlaw looked to CertifID's Fraud Recovery Team.

Following a timely phone call to CertifID’s Fraud Recovery Team, action was immediately taken. CertifID walked Hartmanlaw’s client through the recovery process and contacted federal agencies and financial institutions to freeze and return the client’s funds. CertifID supported Hartmanlaw and its client through the recovery process and was able to return the entirety of the stolen funds to Hartmanlaw’s client.

From our point of view, as a law firm, we know there would have been litigation over it and a drawn out battle. Instead everybody gets to walk away made whole and feeling relieved.
